Open Archivaris searches public council documents that Google does not find. Not just those of one municipal council: you search the meetings of every municipal council, water authority, provincial council and other government body just as easily. Open Archivaris collects the documents from council information systems, municipal websites and other sources, archives them and makes them searchable.
Simple search
Open Archivaris always starts in simple search. You then see every document that contains the words entered. Documents containing all words come first; the fewer search words a document contains, the lower it ranks. By default every municipal council, water authority and other government body is searched.
The filters narrow the results to a kind of government body (municipality, water authority and so on), one or more specific bodies, the size in pages and the date on which the document was changed.
When the search words contain the name of a municipality or other government body, that body is selected automatically and its name removed from the search words. If you do not want that, click the highlighted link that says the search words were adjusted.
Every search result has three vertical dots. They show the details of the document.
Advanced search
The explanation below applies to advanced search. Switch to it with the "Advanced" button to the right of or below the search bar. The examples therefore carry adv=1 in their address.
- One term:
Voerendaal searches title, author and contents of every document, good synonyms included.
- Several terms (OR):
Voerendaal OR bloemen finds every document with "Voerendaal", "bloemen" or both.
- A phrase:
"Woningstichting Voerendaal" searches the exact sequence, as Google does. With "Woningstichting Voerendaal"~100 up to 100 characters may stand between the words.
- Operators: combine terms with
AND, OR and parentheses, and require or exclude words with + and -, as on Google. vliegveld -Schiphol -Lelystad -Eindhoven looks for an airfield that is not Schiphol, Lelystad or Eindhoven.
- Wildcards:
? stands for any one character and * for any sequence of characters. w?ning -woning finds words such as "waning", but no documents containing "woning".
- A field:
embedded_author:thuis searches the author stored in the PDF file; Natuurwaardenonderzoek AND (site_url:*amsterdam* OR site_url:*roermond*) combines a term with the source website.
- A range:
embedded_modified_date:[2020-12-15 TO *] AND page_count:[* TO 2] finds documents changed from 15 December 2020 onwards with at most 2 pages. >, >=, < and <= work too.
A search can be kept or shared: the search term is in the address after ?q=, for example ?q=schaapskooi.
